JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (AP) -- Missouri Gov. Jay Nixon has begun spending more time at his new home in the St. Louis area as his term draws to a close. And that could carry a cost for taxpayers.
Nixon said Wednesday that he's now spending some nights at his University City house instead of the Governor's Mansion in Jefferson City. On Monday morning, for example, the Missouri State Highway Patrol flew from Jefferson City to St. Louis and back to bring him to work at the Capitol.
Patrol Capt. John Hotz said it costs $1,130 per flight hour to operate the state airplane typically used by the governor. It costs an additional $120 an hour for the two pilots.
Nixon's term ends Jan. 9. He bought the St. Louis area house in August.
