Heavy rains cause flooding in eastern Missouri

 

DESOTO, Mo. (AP) -- Heavy rains are causing flooding in eastern Missouri, leading to evacuations and power outages.

The St. Louis Post-Dispatch (http://bit.ly/2aVxBdS ) reports that nearly three dozen people were forced out of their homes early Monday after DeSoto police noticed Joachim Creek overflowing. No injuries were reported.

The flooding comes as up to 6 inches fell overnight in some areas. Besides the flash flooding, Ameren said more than 15,000 customers in Missouri were without power. The hardest hit areas were in Ladue, Rock Hill and Fenton.

Heavy rain is expected to continue until Tuesday in the St. Louis area. One of the areas that could see flooding is Dardenne Creek in St. Peters. Flooding was also expected beginning Tuesday on the Meramec River at Pacific, Eureka, Valley Park and Arnold.
