Firefighters quickly extinguish blaze in Jefferson City house

Firefighters quickly extinguished a blaze in a Jefferson City residential structure on Saturday night.

The Jefferson City Fire Department reports personnel responded at 8:43 p.m. to a fire in the 400 block of East Capital Avenue. Upon arrival, they found smoke and fire showing from a side window on the first floor of a two-story house.

Firefighters quickly worked to get the flames controlled while confirming no one was in the home. The fire was brought under control within 5 minutes of arrival of the first fire truck. The blaze was contained to the room of origin with minimal damage to the structure.

The cause of the fire is being investigated by the state fire marshal.

Two engines, one ladder, two squads, two chief officers and a chaplain, for a total of 17 personnel, responded to the incident along with a member of Cole County EMS and city police officers.
