Jefferson City firefighters extinguish blaze at recycling business

The Jefferson City Fire Department responded to a fire at recycling business early Thursday morning.

According to fire department reports, firefighters were called at 6:45 a.m. to a reported structure fire at Federal International Recycling at 2730 W. Main St. Fire personnel arrived to find an evacuation in progress and light smoke coming from inside the facility.

Crews found a large pile of recycled materials on fire next to combustibles in the vicinity. Crews extinguished the fire, searched the facility for any remaining occupants, and performed ventilation to clear a large amount of smoke from the building. The damage was contained to the area of origin.

The cause of the fire was undetermined due to the variety of material the facility receives. No one was hurt and the business was able to resume normal operations.
