A home is considered a total loss after a fire early Tuesday morning in Jefferson City.

Fire crews were called around 4:19 a.m. to the 400 block of East Hess Way, according to Jefferson City Fire Department reports.

When crews arrived, fire was coming from the first floor of the story-and-a-half home. All occupants of the home got out before firefighters arrived.

As they worked to put out the fire, the first floor collapsed and debris went into the basement of the residence.

There were no injuries reported, and firefighters had the blaze under control in an hour.

Due to the instability of the structure, it will be difficult to determine where the fire started and what caused it, fire officials said.
