Crews from Darrell Wilbers Excavating on Monday began demolition of the office building destroyed by fire on Nov. 2.

The building, located at 1621 E. Elm St., housed the Information Technology Division of the Missouri Department of Social Services.

The cause of the fire, reported at 8:51 p.m., has not been determined. However, officials have said the fire appeared to have started in the attic/roof area and remained contained there.

No one was injured in the fire. About 100 people worked in the building.

Following the fire, the state Office of Administration relocated employees to alternate areas, or made plans for them to work from home.
