4 hurt in Callaway County wrecks

Two motorists were seriously injured when their vehicles collided Saturday afternoon in Callaway County.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol reports Brittany A. Sutphin, 21, of Ashland, was exceeding the speed limit when she failed to stop at a stop sign while driving northbound at the intersection of County Road 304 and 305. Her car struck an eastbound car driven by Leigh A. Fenton, 51, of Fulton, then traveled off the road and struck a fence.

Both drivers were transported by ambulance to University Hospital in Columbia following the 12:50 p.m. crash.

In a separate accident Saturday evening, two Fulton residents were injured when their van ran off a Callaway County road and struck a tree and a stump.

The patrol reports John D. Belisle, 41, was driving southbound on Gibbs Lane near County Road 113 when the crash occurred at 5:40 p.m. He and a passenger, April M. Smith, 39, were taken by ambulance to University Hospital in Columbia for treatment of moderate injuries.
