Work on US 54 begins this week

Contractors working for the Missouri Department of Transportation will begin a safety improvement project on U.S. 54 south of Jefferson City next week.

Construction will begin Monday on eastbound and westbound U.S. 54 between the Stadium Boulevard intersection in Jefferson City and the Miller County line.

Work will require intermittent day and overnight lane closures in both directions, according to a MoDOT news release.

Crews will start by installing guardrails and guard cables along this heavily traveled section of U.S. 54.

The second phase of the project, expected to begin in the next few weeks, will include pavement improvements along the same stretch of roadway.

Motorists should plan extra travel time to get through the work zones, MoDOT officials said.

The project is scheduled to be completed by Nov. 1.
