Weekend vehicle stops lead to area drug arrests

Two vehicle stops led to two arrests for illegal drugs in Moniteau County last weekend.

While on routine patrol Saturday, deputies stopped a vehicle on Route CC near Waking Acres Road, according to a news release from the Moniteau County Sheriff's Office. Authorities said the vehicle had out-of-state plates and was stopped for moving violations.

The driver was identified as Albert J. Bourgeois, 43, and deputies learned he did not have a valid driver's license. Deputies further learned Bourgeois was on probation for theft of a motor vehicle and had an outstanding warrant out of Florida for grand theft of a motor vehicle, which was non-extraditable.

Deputies searched the vehicle and reportedly located marijuana, drug paraphernalia and methamphetamine.

Also Saturday, Moniteau County deputies conducted a traffic stop in Tipton for a moving violation. The driver, Heather Canady, 33, of Sedalia, gave consent to search the vehicle, and deputies reportedly located marijuana and drug paraphernalia inside.
