A Jefferson City man has been charged with causing thousands of dollars in damage at Jefferson City High School.

James McLellan, 39, is charged with one count of first-degree property damage.

The incident occurred July 25, according to a Jefferson City Police Department probable cause statement.

McLellan allegedly used a sledgehammer to damage an elevator and drywall at the school on Union Street.

School officials estimated there was $3,000 worth of damage.

Authorities watched school surveillance video and determined McLellan was the suspect in this case.

When questioned, McLellan allegedly admitted to being the person shown in the video.
