The exterior of Capital Region Medical Center in Jefferson City got an upgrade this week as crews put up a brand new sign on the southeast side of the building.

The new sign replaces a smaller, white, box-style sign. The new sign is made up of larger black letters along with the yellow Capital Region logo.

The new sign is attached to a new barrier that was recently built on top of that side of the building to cover HVAC and other equipment visible on the roof.

Lindsay Huhman, director of marketing and public relations for CRMC, said the extra real estate with the added barrier gave the hospital the opportunity to add the larger sign, which matches the signage on the north side of the building.

The new sign also includes the addition of the MU Health Care logo. CRMC has been an affiliate of MU Health Care since 1997, and the MU logo was up on the north side but hadn't been added to the southeast side.

Huhman said signs in the location of the previous sign have gone back decades, back to when the hospital was called Still Hospital after it was founded in 1951. In 1990, it was changed to the Still Regional Medical Center. Then, in 1994, Still Regional merged with Memorial Community Hospital to become Capital Region.

Another version of the CRMC sign - a blue and white box-style sign - was up at one point before the white and black one.

The old sign will come down from the building once the new sign is hooked up to electricity and able to be lit.
