Helias Foundation seeking Hall of Fame candidates

The Helias Catholic High School Foundation is accepting nominations of people to be recognized in the organization’s Hall of Fame.

The foundation will select up to 10 new inductees for the Hall of Fame’s class of 2020.

To qualify, honorees must have graduated at least 20 years prior to induction, demonstrated loyalty and service to Helias, distinguished himself or herself in a chosen field, and exhibited moral standards to the credit of the school, according to information on the foundation’s website.

Candidates are not required to be Helias graduates. It is important candidates have shown their commitment to the school, Foundation Executive Director Mike Bruns said.

“It doesn’t have to be financial (commitment),” Bruns said. “It’s what they give back to Helias through time and talent.”

Volunteers are regularly needed in sports programs and at foundation events, he said. Those who give back are often unsung champions. It’s an honor to publicly thank them for their service, Bruns said.

“It’s usually the ones that are kind of in the background that don’t want to be acknowledged that need to be acknowledged,” he said.

Nominations can be submitted online or directly to the foundation at 1305 Swifts Highway in Jefferson City.

The deadline to nominate is Dec. 3.

Nominees chosen to be inducted will be recognized at the annual Legacy Celebration and Hall of Fame Induction Gala on Feb. 29, 2020, at Capitol Plaza Hotel and Conference Center, 415 W. McCarty St.

The theme of the 12th annual event will remain focused on promoting the legacy of alumni, Bruns said, adding many Helias students share the Crusader tradition with their parents and grandparents.
