Jefferson City's fifth annual Project Homeless Connect is this Friday.

The event works to reduce as many barriers as possible to help people experiencing homelessness or who are near homelessness to become self-sufficient, according to its website. It will help people connect with service providers, community organizations, social services and thrift shops, as well as receive same-day health screenings, eye exams and dental screenings.

Project Homeless Connect is scheduled from 9 a.m.-2 p.m. in the 300 block of East Capitol Avenue.

First Baptist Church, 301 E. Capitol Ave.; First United Methodist Church, 201 Monroe St.; and First Christian Church, 327 E. Capitol Ave., provide space for the project, and other churches help by providing transportation and volunteers.
