Road closures along the Moreau River due to heavy rain

Due to heavy rains that fell Thursday along the Moreau River, the Cole County Public Works Department announced several road closures Thursday afternoon: the 7600 block of Campbell Road, 8700 block of Payne Road, 11100 block of North Branch Road, 1400 block of Waterford Road, 1300 block of Murphy's Ford Road, 2800 block of Meadowsford Road and 7400 block of Vaughn Ford Road.

Cole County Public Works Director Larry Benz said it would probably be a couple of days for the main river to reach a level where these roads could be re-opened.

As of Thursday afternoon, the National Weather Service in St. Louis showed the Moreau near Jefferson City was at six feet and expected to go up to just over 15 feet by Friday evening. Flood stage is 17 feet. The forecast called for the river to fall to around eight feet by Saturday afternoon.
