JC man gets probation in thefts from Target

A Jefferson City man was placed on five years supervised probation after pleading guilty to stealing Fitbit fitness watches and a doorbell camera from the Target store on West Stadium Boulevard between February and May 2018.

Andrew Miller, 36, pleaded guilty to one count of felony stealing during a hearing before Cole County Senior Judge Richard Callahan. He was also ordered to pay $4,542 in restitution.

Jefferson City Police Department reports state the asset protection manager of the store witnessed Miller on an in-store surveillance camera take two Fitbit smart watches and a Nest doorbell camera in May 2018.

The asset protector was "familiar with this subject because he was the suspect in ten active theft investigations of Fitbit watches and electronics that had also been caught on camera."

The asset protector watched as Miller left the store without paying for any of the items.

Officers later located Miller who was a passenger in a vehicle which left the store about 20 minutes after this last theft and took him into custody.

Authorities said Miller confessed to committing 10 thefts at the store and selling the items at a pawn shop.
