Jefferson City officials have renewed a curfew to cover Friday night and early Saturday morning in order to protect areas damaged by Wednesday night's tornado.

The area included in the curfew -- which begins at 9 p.m. Friday and continues until 5 a.m. Saturday -- is bounded on the east by Lafayette Street, on the south by Stadium Boulevard, on the west by Monroe Street and on the north by the Missouri River.

Under the mayor's order establishing the curfew, the Jefferson City police chief may reduce the curfew area and may extend the curfew on a nightly basis through 5 a.m. Tuesday, at which time a further emergency proclamation would be required to extend the curfew further.

Individuals who are exempt from the curfew include those providing designated essential services such as fire, law enforcement, public works, municipal code enforcement, emergency medical and hospital services, military and utility/telecommunciations emergency repairs -- as well as employees of local industries traveling to and from their jobs with appropriate identification, news media employees, and building and repair contractors and their employees performing activities related to construction, repair, renovation or improvement of buildings and other structures damaged during the emergency.
