Jefferson City man's death after concert investigated as 'suspicious'

The death of a Jefferson City man this week in Maryland Heights is being investigated as "suspicious."

Hollywood Casino Amphitheater medical personnel were notified at about 11:10 p.m. Wednesday that there was an unconscious man on the concrete pathway between the lawn and house seating area, several minutes after a Dave Matthews Band concert had concluded, according to an official release from the Maryland Heights Police Department on its Facebook page.

Authorities identified the victim as Jasen Smith, 44, of Jefferson City.

Smith was taken to a local hospital but died several hours later from what authorities said was "an apparent head injury."

Maryland Heights police are seeking witnesses or people who may have information on how Smith suffered his injury.
