Jamestown hires new marshal

JAMESTOWN, Mo. - The Jamestown Board of Aldermen approved the hiring of Jeff Cook as the new city marshal.

Cook, of California, has worked for the Moniteau County Sheriff's Department for five years. He said he was interested in the position when Mayor Larry Borts contacted him.

"I just want to help out the community," Cook said.

Passionate about his career, he said he's hoping to make a few changes. Cook plans to bring on a new staff for the part-time availability. He would like officers to work a certain amount of hours in Jamestown a month.

The officers would be adding shifts in Jamestown to their full-time positions elsewhere.

California police chief Shane Templeton served as Jamestown marshal until February. He will support Cook as a consultant in the new role.
