The trial of another defendant in a case involving the death of Carl DeBrodie has been delayed due to pending federal charges.

During a Monday hearing, Anthony R. Flores, 58, and lawyer Kathryn Benson requested a continuance of the trial originally scheduled for Wednesday. County prosecuting attorney Christopher Wilson sustained the request without objection.

Trials for defendants Sherry and Mary Paulo were similarly delayed March 19, with Mary Paulo citing personal reasons and Sherry Paulo referencing the coming federal charges.

Flores' trial will be set back at least 90 days, according to online court records. A status hearing has been planned for 9 a.m. June 25.

Wilson said last week he's not sure when the federal charges will arrive.

He also noted Sherry and Mary Paulo are "represented by counsel in a federal investigation related to our state case" and are negotiating with the U.S. Attorney's Office regarding federal charges.

Flores is charged with abandonment of a corpse, a class D misdemeanor; two counts of making a false report or false statement of a missing person, a class A misdemeanor; involuntary manslaughter, a class C felony; and patient/client abuse/neglect, a class D felony. He has pleaded not guilty to all charges.

DeBrodie was 31 years old when his remains were found in a Fulton storage unit April 24, 2017, about a week after he was reported missing. He was a developmentally disabled resident of Second Chance Homes of Fulton, a care facility at 298 Claymine Drive tasked with and paid to give him care.

Flores and the four others charged in the case were employees of Second Chance Homes. In late February, Anthony R.K. Flores and Shaina Osborne pleaded guilty to making a false report or false statement of a missing person.
