Wind advisory, Moreau River flood warning issued Wednesday

The National Weather Service in St. Louis has issued a wind advisory in effect from 10 a.m.-7 p.m. Wednesday, March 13, 2019, and a high wind watch in effect from 9 a.m.-7 p.m. Thursday, March 14, 2019.

The National Weather Service in St. Louis has issued a flood warning for the Moreau River near Jefferson City.

This warning is a result of nearly an inch of precipitation the past 24 hours and less than 1 inch forecast in the next 48 hours.

The warning extends from Wednesday evening to Friday afternoon.

The river was at 9.9 feet Wednesday morning. Flood stage is 17 feet, and the river is forecast to rise above flood stage by Wednesday evening and crest near 20 feet by after midnight tonight.

The river is forecast to fall below flood stage by Thursday afternoon.

Typically, when the Moreau River reaches 20 feet, portions of Buffalo Road will be closed. At 19 feet, parts of Zion Road will be closed; and at 18 feet, parts of both Bainer Road and Loesch Road will be closed.

Parts of Mid-Missouri - including Cole, Boone, Callaway, Gasconade, Moniteau and Osage counties - may see thunderstorms through Wednesday evening and Thursday morning.

The NWS also has warned of strong winds expected in the area, with gusts up to 45 miles per hour expected Wednesday and up to 60 mph Thursday. A wind advisory is in effect from 10 a.m.-7 p.m. Wednesday, and a high wind watch is in effect from 9 a.m.-7 p.m. Thursday.
