JCHS graduation back-up location changed

Ongoing renovations to Jefferson City High School mean the back-up location for the Class of 2019's graduation ceremony will be at The Linc, in the event of inclement weather.

Jefferson City Public Schools announced Sunday that JCHS's Fleming Fieldhouse has traditionally been the back-up venue in case of bad weather on the day of graduation, but "due to ongoing renovations, and resulting occupancy limitations we were recently made aware of, we will be unable to use Fleming Fieldhouse as our back-up location this year - egress is limited and would only allow 1-2 family members per student to enjoy graduation if held indoors."

JCPS Director of Secondary Education Gary Verslues said Monday night that if graduation has to be held indoors at The Linc, four people per student would be able to come.

"In order to accommodate events already scheduled at The Linc on the day of graduation, the time for our event must be changed to 12 p.m. - noon - on Sunday, May 12," JCPS said.

"We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience this change may cause. We appreciate everyone working with us to meet the challenges of construction as we look forward to the new and improved JCHS, and we very much look forward to celebrating your student's graduation!" JCPS' announcement said.

Assuming that there will not be inclement weather on May 12, graduation will be held at noon, outdoors at Adkins Stadium.

Renovations at JCHS are planned to be fully completed by January 2020, with the school's new gym planned to be finished October 2019.
