Jefferson City man arrested after child struck by car

A Jefferson City man was taken into custody following an accident where a small child was struck by a vehicle Monday morning.

According to Jefferson City Police Department reports, the accident occurred at 11:55 a.m. in the 900 block of Monroe Street, which is where the street begins to go one-way.

A two-year-old was standing in the roadway, near the curb, when he was struck by a vehicle driven by James Buchanan, 59. The vehicle had been parked and Buchanan was preparing to travel southbound on Monroe.

The toddler was transported from the scene by private vehicle to a local hospital for treatment for abrasions to his left foot.

Buchanan was found to be impaired and placed under arrest for alcohol-related offenses.
