Pay increased for Eldon city prosecutor

ELDON, Mo. - The Eldon Board of Aldermen revised the city code Tuesday to correct compensation for City Prosecutor Richard Holtmeyer.

Members voted 4-1 to put the increase on the record.

Under previous city code, the prosecutor's pay was set at $575 per month.

Ward 1 Alderwoman Daphany Partridge, who voted against the increase, asked the board and city officials when an increase to $700 had taken place.

"I do not know when he was actually raised to $700," City Clerk Stacie Howk said. "I looked back as far as 2017, and he was being paid $700 then."

Ward 2 Alderman Jerome Atteberry and Ward 3 Alderman Bryon Hull have been on the board since 2017. Neither recall an ordinance or discussion about changes.

"We didn't change the pay then," Atteberry said. "Since I've been here we've never changed the pay, so it was done before then."

According to the city's website, the code on compensation includes payment for aldermen, $200 per month; city attorney, $1,100 per month; mayor, $1,000 per month; municipal judge, $983 per month; and city marshal, $43,000 annually.

City Administrator Debbie Guthrie also announced the city code enforcement staff had been fired to reduce payroll.

"Those responsibilities are now being done by other staff members," Guthrie said.

The 2019 budget included a $47,167 salary for code enforcement staff.

In other business Tuesday:

  • The board approved modifying the zoning map to rezone a property within the city.
  • The board approved a lot combination.
  • Guthrie asked the board for recommendations for using $22,175.50 donated to the tornado relief account.
