Fire destroys Jefferson City home

The cause for a Jefferson City house fire early Tuesday morning was listed as "undetermined."

Smoke and flames could be seen rising from the single-family home in the 200 block of Tomahawk Road, located in a residential neighborhood in eastern Jefferson City.

The Jefferson City Fire Department responded to the call at around 5:25 a.m. after a passerby noticed flames coming from the home and called 911. Firefighters discovered the structure was fully involved in fire when they arrived.

No one was occupying the home when the fire occurred.

Fire officials said they could not determine where the blaze began. The structure is considered a loss.

Authorities said it was unclear how long it could be for a cause to be found and said, as of Tuesday, it was too early to say if there was anything suspicious about the fire.

The fire department and the Missouri state fire marshal are conducting a joint investigation into the fire.
