Owner of ring remains unknown

More than 28 years after finding a Jefferson City High School student’s class ring, a St. Louis woman is still hoping to find the ring’s owner.

Alease Howard found the ring in 1990 when she lived on Marshall Street in Jefferson City where JCHS students used to gather. Ever since, she’s been on a quest over many moves and many miles to find its owner.

“This is important to that guy,” Howard said. “I have no use for it, and I want him to have it back.”

The ring leaves subtle clues as to who its owner may be.

The top of the ring indicates the ring came from the year 1987. Another side of the ring indicates a “Randy” owned the ring.

A football helmet on the ring indicated the owner played football and was No. 9. The ring also contains an amethyst birth stone, indicating the owner may have been born in February.

Howard believes the person was a JCHS senior in 1987.

“There’s a lot of information on it,” Howard said. “That’s why I’m not sure how they can’t find that guy.”

From 1989-2000, Howard lived in Jefferson City. Later, Howard lived in Memphis before moving back to her hometown of St. Louis two years ago, where she retired.

Over the years, Howard tried to solicit help from the Jefferson City Public School District and JCHS, but said she always ran into walls when searching for the ring’s owners. Howard also combed through online records of JCHS seniors for years around 1987, but her search has been in vain.

In December, a Washington state woman used social media to return a wedding ring she found in a pressure cooker box to the ring’s owner. Howard saw the story on St. Louis Fox affiliate Fox 2 and renewed her search for the JCHS ring’s owner.

“The lady was so happy,” Howard said. “I could imagine how they could feel if they got this ring back.”
