Cole County Commission OKs pavement replacement on Courtyard Drive

The Cole County Commission has approved additional work on a major stormwater project.

The work will be done on Courtyard Drive, part of the Meadowbrook Estates stormwater project, County Engineer Eric Landwehr said during Tuesday’s commission meeting.

Plans originally called for concrete pavement repair of about half of the pavement, to be done in several patches, Landwehr said.

New plans would remove all of the concrete and replace it with asphalt, Landwehr said. This would cost approximately $50,000 to come from the county’s funds for overlay work.

“Because asphalt is cheaper per square yard than partial concrete repair, the additional cost is not that much and was worth considering,” Landwehr said. “The end result would be better for long-term maintenance.”

Heavy rains in August 2016 caused flooding in the area. The County Commission approved the project in 2017, and construction began last year.

The project has been estimated to cost $1.7 million and includes stormwater repairs, curb and gutter work, and street and pavement work. The majority of the costs will be covered by the county’s half-cent improvement sales tax.

The project is expected to be complete by the first week of May, Landwehr said.
