A new clothing retailer opened its doors at Capital Mall last month.

Savannah, Georgia-based Citi Trends offers discounted fashion apparel, shoes and accessories for men and women. The store opened its location in the Capital Mall's JCPenney wing across from Ross Dress for Less on Jan. 24.

Store Manager David Scott said the store carries new, modern clothing.

"It carries anywhere from little kids all the way up to big men's," Scott said. "Plus they've got a large selection of juniors and plus sizes."

The 9,000-square-foot store employs eight people. The company brought merchandise into the shop about three weeks ago.

"It only took about 10 days to get it all set up," Scott said. "It was pretty quick."

Ross Dress for Less opened its 24,000-square-foot store at the mall in 2016 after a year-long renovation. With three discount clothiers now in the same wing of the mall, he hopes they will feed off of each other and attract customers to all three stores.

"Customers that normally don't come to the mall will come to the mall," Scott said.

Citi Trends has 564 stores in 32 states, including four in the St. Louis region and one in Kansas City. As Citi Trends' only Mid-Missouri store, Scott thinks it could attract customers from Columbia.

"I think it's nice to have one right here in Mid-Missouri," he said. "Once the word gets out about Citi Trends, I think we'll get a lot of customers coming in."
