Gala is a magical fundraiser for Special Learning Center

Tickets are still available for the 11th annual gala benefiting the Special Learning Center.

Moments of Magic, put on by the Special Learning Center Foundation, incorporates a “Superhero” theme this year, according to foundation Director Heather Renkemeyer. It is scheduled for Feb. 22.

The show is made up of children who attend or have attended the center, Renkemeyer said.

“This year, we have a dance group of children who have special needs,” she said. “They are from Elite Dance Studio in Jefferson City.”

Holly Enowski, a former student at the center, also will perform at the gala. Enowski, a University of Missouri student, is a 21-year-old hopeful Miss Missouri contestant from Olean — and the reigning Miss Fleur de Lis, a preliminary pageant to Miss Missouri. She plays the xylophone.

The event begins with wine tasting and a reception at 5:30 p.m. at the DoubleTree Hotel, 422 Monroe St. in Jefferson City. Performances begin at 7 p.m. Dessert and a wrap-up are 7:30-8 p.m.

Tickets cost $50 and can be purchased at the Special Learning Center, 1115 Fairgrounds Road. For more information, call 573-634-3070.

This is the largest fundraiser for the foundation, which supports the Special Learning Center. Over the previous 10 years, it has raised more than $250,000 for the center.

“It’s always a packed house,” Renkemeyer said.
