Jefferson City man charged after weekend chase

A Jefferson City man has been charged after a weekend chase with authorities.

Dennis Moses, 38, is charged with resisting arrest, leaving the scene of an accident, possession of a controlled substance and driving while revoked.

Moses was seen at 5:14 p.m. Saturday traveling east on East Dunklin Street, approaching Marshall Street, according to a Jefferson City Police Department probable cause statement. An officer saw he was driving with an expired license plate and attempted to stop him at East Dunklin and Marshall streets, but Moses allegedly failed to stop and the pursuit began.

Authorities reported Moses failed to yield to motorists, drove through stop signs and hit speeds of more than 70 mph on city streets.

While traveling east on East McCarty Street, Moses attempted to turn south on Clark Avenue. Due to his high rate of speed, Moses was unable to make the turn and crashed head-on into another vehicle that was stopped at the light on Clark Avenue, attempting to turn west onto East McCarty Street.

Despite having heavy damage, Moses drove away from the crash scene and continued to flee from officers. When he reached U.S. 50/63, he was allegedly going more than 100 mph and at one point drove into the wrong lanes of traffic before crossing the median to avoid tire spikes that had been deployed by officers.

Eventually, Moses drove into a residential neighborhood and into a yard in the 200 block of Stephan Drive. He drove off the side of a hill and got out of the vehicle.

After a short foot pursuit he was taken into custody.

Officers searched Moses' vehicle and reportedly found approximately 5 grams of methamphetamine.
