Man charged with fatally beating neighbor with a lamp

SPANISH LAKE, Mo. (AP) - A 42-year-old north St. Louis County man is accused of beating his 63-year-old neighbor to death with a lamp before stealing his car.

Police said in a news release that Keith Hill was charged Sunday in the death of 63-year-old Michael Shaw in Spanish Lake. The two men lived next door to each other.

He is charged with second-degree murder, robbery, burglary and two counts of armed criminal action.

Shaw's body was found Saturday morning when officers were called to make a welfare check on him.

Police said a probable cause statement indicates Hill was angry because Shaw refused to give him money.

Police recovered Shaw's unoccupied vehicle Sunday.

Police did not say Sunday how Hill was found. His bond was set at $500,000.
