School districts seek career center partnership

ELDON — Russellville students will be eligible to take advantage of Quaker Windows and Doors coming to Eldon.

If slots are available, juniors and seniors may enroll in Eldon Career Center industrial and engineering technology courses or building trade courses. The Eldon School Board approved the request at their meeting Monday.

In October, the Freeburg business announced the building of a $65 million facility to open in the fall. The business is expected to bring more than 300 jobs to the area.

Introduction to construction trades, introduction to engineering design, civil engineering and architecture, 3Ds animation, computer science essentials, power sports, and a two-year building trades courses allow students the opportunity to apply and interview for a paid summer internship with Quaker.

Before sign-ups begin for the 2020 school year, Russellville Superintendent Perry Gorrell said they must seek approval from Missouri Department of Secondary Education by Nov. 1, 2019.

The program cost of $2,500 per student and would be paid by the district. Individuals would be responsible for their own transportation.

Superintendent Matt Davis said the school is excited for the partnership. The Eldon Career Center currently serves Eugene, Stover, Versailles, Tuscumbia and St. Elizabeth students.

Gorrell said the district will continue to send students to Nichols Career Center in Jefferson City. Students currently attend welding, culinary arts, automotive and other programs.

At the time, no Russellville students have expressed interest in the program.
