Voting at Blair Oaks High School was slow but steady Tuesday morning. School district patrons had two school board seats on the ballot as well as a $14 million bond issue for a new high school.

Voters in the Blair Oaks R-2 school district on Tuesday selected Dale Verslues and Tim Luebbering to be members of the district's Board of Education, replacing two incumbents who were appointed by the board last summer.

Verslues led with 22.84 percent of the vote, with Luebbering just behind at 22.35 percent of the vote.

The five candidates for two available two-year term seats on Blair Oaks' Board of Education also included Mark Brandt, Jason Paulsmeyer and Calvin Wilbers. Brandt and Paulsmeyer were appointed by the school board last summer to fill two vacancies.

Verslues and Luebbering felt good about their win Tuesday, but said they know there's much work ahead.

Large majorities of voters in the district also approved Blair Oaks to build the first $14 million phase of a new high school and raise the district's operating levy by 30 cents this year to pay for the staff and other expenses that having another building on the district's campus will bring.

Verslues said the next steps are going to be finalizing details - getting design prints set up and approved, getting bids out.

Luebbering likewise said "figuring out where they are in the process, and getting things finalized and going" is what needs to happen next on the high school project.
