Man sentenced to 120-day shock detention

A Jefferson City man has been ordered to serve 120 days of shock detention in prison after two attempted robberies in February.

Demetrius Jones, 29, pleaded guilty to one count of first-degree attempted robbery and one count of second-degree attempted robbery during a hearing before Cole County Presiding Judge Pat Joyce.

The first attempted robbery occurred at Little Caesars Pizza on Eastland Drive, according to Jefferson City Police Department probable cause statements. An employee said a man, later identified as Jones, entered the store and implied he had a weapon and would cause bodily harm if he was not given money from the business. He fled the store on foot without getting any money.

The second incident occurred at Break Time on Clark Avenue. Jones entered the business with a wooden baseball bat and demanded money from the clerk, breaking out a glass display window and the debit card machine at the counter with the bat. Jones then came around the corner and struck the clerk in the head with the bat. The clerk fought with Jones, who eventually fled on foot and did not get any money.

During the fight, Jones dropped his cellphone. The clerk identified Jones through a photo lineup.

When questioned by authorities, Jones admitted to committing both attempted robberies.
