Sip N' Shop set for Nov. 3

Downtown Jefferson City businesses want people to ring in the holidays while sipping on suds from Missouri breweries and wineries this November.

The Downtown Association will hold downtown businesses' annual open house Nov. 3. To spice up the event, the association will sell 200 tickets to a new shopping event dubbed Sip N' Shop.

Sip N' Shop will marry the open house with tastings of beers and wines from Missouri breweries and wineries, Downtown Association President Sheila Smith said. Each participating retailer will be paired with a beer or wine from Missouri.

The event is scheduled from 3-7 p.m. Nov. 3.

The open house typically serves as the first foray into the holiday shopping season for retailers and attendees. Smith said Sip N' Shop seemed like a logical way to encourage people to stay downtown and drive traffic into downtown businesses.

"The Holiday Open House is an all-day ordeal, so we wanted something in the afternoon when there are more people downtown to encourage them to grab dinner downtown," Smith said.

Tickets, already on sale, cost $10 and can be purchased at Carrie's Hallmark Shop, Downtown Book & Toy, Premium Pets and Samuel's Tuxedos or online at downtownjeffersoncity.com. Patrons will receive a wine glass that acts as their ticket for the event.

A list of participating stores, breweries and wineries will be released later, Smith said. If the event is successful, the Downtown Association could sell more tickets next year, she added.
