Local man given probation in assault case

A Jefferson City man has been placed on five years of supervised probation for felony unlawful use of a weapon and misdemeanor domestic assault after he put a gun to a woman's head in August.

Keith Brown, 29, pleaded guilty during a hearing before Cole County Judge Dan Green.

Brown been arguing with the victim all night and had repeatedly come to the victim's residence to harass her while she was outside, according to a probable cause statement from the Jefferson City Police Department.

The victim and a friend were outside in the 1000 block of Elizabeth Street, near the friend's vehicle that was parked roadside.

The victim and her friend told police Brown had chased the victim around the vehicle.

The victim got into the passenger seat and Brown got between her and the door to allegedly hit her while she sat, then Brown allegedly displayed a handgun that he pointed at the victim's head and threatened to shoot her with.

The weapon was described to police as a small, silver handgun.

The victim and her friend drove away and allegedly were followed by Brown, who was with another man.

The victim called 911, and a JCPD officer stopped the suspect's vehicle in the 600 block of Jefferson Street.

A search located a Raven .25-caliber handgun in the glove box, with the weapon's ammunition magazine in the passenger seat where Brown was sitting. The gun had a chrome finish and bone-colored handle.
