Age discrimination suit dismissed against school, diocese

An age discrimination lawsuit filed in 2017 by a former teacher at St. Francis Xaxier School in Taos against the school and the Catholic Diocese of Jefferson City has been dismissed in Cole County Court.

Cole County Judge Jon Beetem dismissed the case involving plaintiff Gregory Holtmeyer with prejudice, according to court records, meaning Holtmeyer is barred from filing future lawsuits over the same issues. Holtmeyer's lawyer, Nimrod Chapel, filed to the motion to dismiss the case.

Holtmeyer was 49 while working at the school in the 2015-16 school year and had 26 years of teaching experience, according to court documents. He claimed he was subjected to discrimination, harassment and a hostile work environment because of his age and the perception of a disability.
