Missouri given REAL ID extension

The U.S. Department of Homeland Security granted Missouri an extension through Aug. 1, 2019, to comply with federal REAL ID Act, the Missouri Department of Revenue announced in a news release Monday.

The REAL ID Act of 2005 requires states to comply with strict standards for identification cards. The extension will allow Missourians to present current, non-REAL ID-compliant drivers' licenses to board domestic flights and enter federal buildings through at least Aug. 1.

In September, Missouri received an extension through Jan. 21 to comply with the law.

Missouri Department of Revenue Director Joel Walters said DOR is still on track to have REAL ID compliant drivers' licenses available by March 2019.
