Local man pleads guilty to Walmart bomb threat

A Holts Summit man has been placed on two years of unsupervised probation for making a bomb threat in October 2017 at Walmart on West Stadium Boulevard in Jefferson City.

Carl Rhoads, 37, pleaded guilty to one count of third-degree making a terroristic threat, a misdemeanor, in a hearing before Cole County Associate Circuit Judge Tom Sodergren.

Rhoads also was ordered to never enter the premises of the store.

The incident was reported when an employee found a note in a bathroom indicating a bomb was in the store, according to a Jefferson City Police Department probable cause statement.

The store was evacuated and closed to the public for about two hours while it was searched using explosive-detecting K-9 units.

Store video shows Rhoads entering a restroom, the last person there before the note was discovered, according to the probable cause statement.

When questioned by authorities, he admitted to leaving the note and said he "enjoys the chaos and corruption caused by his action, but never intended to harm anyone."
