Jefferson City man sentenced to 6 years

A Jefferson City man was sentenced to six years in prison after pleading guilty to selling crack cocaine.

Nelson Logan Jr., 61, pleaded guilty to one count of delivery of a controlled substance during a hearing before Cole County Presiding Judge Pat Joyce.

Logan was charged after an investigation by the Mustang Drug Task Force in January.

Mustang officers met with a confidential informant about purchasing crack from Logan, according to a Cole County Sheriff's Department probable cause statement. Authorities followed the informant to the 300 block of Locust Street, where Logan was seen leaving a home and getting into a vehicle with the informant. A short time later, Logan got out of the vehicle and went back inside the residence.

The informant then went back to the Mustang officers and turned over two packages of crack cocaine along with an audio/video recorder he had been given to record the transaction.

Authorities identified Logan as the seller by reviewing the recordings and comparing pictures of him in their files. Tests on the packages came up positive for crack cocaine.

Court records show Logan has an extensive criminal history in Missouri, including several felony convictions for robbery, burglary, first-degree child molestation and possession of a controlled substance.
