A Jefferson City man was sentenced to five years in prison for pleading guilty to charges in connection with a drug case that occurred in August.

During a hearing before Cole County Presiding Judge Pat Joyce, Dayvon Brisco, 25, pleaded guilty to two counts of delivery of a controlled substance and to one count each of resisting arrest for fleeing from police and unlawful possession of a firearm.

Officers were called Aug. 27 to the 2500 block of Southridge Drive in reference to an incident of leaving the scene of a motor vehicle crash, according to a Jefferson City Police Department probable cause statement. One of the people involved was Brisco, who was found to have a warrant from Illinois for a charge of aggravated vehicle hijacking.

Officers went to Brisco's residence in the 200 block of North Ventura Avenue.

As officers were waiting for the warrant confirmation, Brisco tried to pass off a bag of crack cocaine to his roommate. An officer saw this, grabbed the bag and told Brisco he was under arrest for possession of narcotics. He then ran out of the apartment and onto the street. Officers followed him but eventually lost sight of him in a wooded area behind the apartments. The bag was found to contain 19 individual bags of crack and five bags of heroin.

Brisco was taken into custody in September.
