Sexual predator committed to mental health department

Missouri Attorney General Josh Hawley’s office announced Wednesday Dorian Bryant, 46, stipulated to being a sexually violent predator in Cole County Circuit Court.

Special Judge Robert Schollmeyer signed an order committing Bryant to the custody of the Department of Mental Health for treatment until such time he is safe to be at large. The Missouri Department of Corrections found Bryant suffered from mental disorders, causing an attraction to nonconsensual sexual activity and antisocial behavior.

According to Hawley’s office, Bryant has a lengthy criminal history including violent crimes and drug offenses. In 1999, while on probation for another violent offense, Bryant committed first-degree sexual misconduct by grabbing a woman in a parking lot on the way to her vehicle. Months later, he forced himself on a woman inside her apartment and was convicted of attempted forcible rape. In 2011, Bryant exposed himself to a 5-year-old girl and her mother in a toy store parking lot. He received a conviction for sexual misconduct involving a child.
