A Jefferson City man has been charged after a Wednesday night crash in the Capital City.

David Brown, 56, is charged with three felonies — driving while impaired, leaving the scene of an accident and driving while revoked.

According to a Jefferson City Police Department report, an officer responded to the 2000 block of Route C, just before 8 p.m., for a motor vehicle crash.

Prior to getting on the scene, the officer was told the driver had left the scene, but a witness had given another officer a description of the vehicle and the vehicle’s license plate number and he was given that information.

A short time later, Brown’s vehicle was spotted by police in the parking lot of Schulte’s on Southwest Boulevard. It had heavy front-end damage and smoke was coming from under the hood of the vehicle. The vehicle’s license plate matched the one for the vehicle involved in the earlier accident.

An officer went to talk to the driver, which was Brown, and found him to have bloodshot eyes, slurred speech and staggered after he got out of the vehicle.

When questioned, Brown allegedly told officers he had been involved in the crash.

Court records show Brown has three prior DWI convictions, four prior driving while revoked convictions and multiple active DWI revocations.
