Windows replacements at LU hall approved

Lincoln University's Anthony Hall is getting 168 new window panes this summer.

In a telephone conference call Thursday afternoon, the school's curators approved a $252,515 contract with MegAllie Construction.

The Jefferson City company was the low bidder among three that submitted bids by May 1.

Chief Financial Officer Sandy Koetting told curators, in a memo, that LU hasn't "worked previously with this new company. However, references were contacted and we received good reviews."

The work involves removing the 168 existing single-pane windows and "replacing them with more energy efficient, dual-pane, double hung, aluminum-clad windows with clear, low-e glass, maintaining its historical divided light look and profile."

The aluminum cladding means less maintenance "in needing to paint the wood," Koetting's memo noted, and a "tilt-in feature will allow cleaning of the windows from the inside."

The inside of the windows will be stained to match the existing wood finish inside the rooms.

New screens also will be installed.

Although the bid was awarded Thursday, people won't see work being done until July, Koetting noted, with a goal of completing the work before students return to classes in mid-August.

Before the installation can begin - which will take two to three weeks - shop drawings have to be made and, after they are approved, it will take four to five weeks to fabricate the new windows.

Funding for the project will come from "year-end auxiliary funds," Koetting said.
