Prison time granted in theft case

A Tebbetts man has been sentenced to five years in prison after pleading guilty to charges regarding several theft-related investigations around Cole County.

In Cole County, Joseph Green, 22, was charged with one count of first-degree tampering for operating a pickup without the owner's consent in January 2016. He also was charged with one count of second-degree burglary in connection with a break-in in the 6700 block of Frasher Drive in August 2016.

Another first-degree tampering charge was filed for operating another pickup without the owner's consent in November 2016.

Green also pleaded guilty to charges in connection with breaking into a business and stealing a vehicle, also in November 2016. He was charged with first-degree burglary and first-degree tampering, and Cole County Judge Dan Green ordered that he pay $775 in restitution in this case.

In that case, deputies responded to the 2900 block of Renns Lake Road in reference to a vehicle stolen from the lot of Braun Auto, according to a Cole County Sheriff's Department statement.

It was discovered someone had broken into the business, taken the keys for the vehicle and driven it off the lot.

After security video was reviewed, Green was identified as the person who had broken into the business.
