Holts Summit man charged with stealing batteries

A Holts Summit man has been charged with stealing batteries from a Cole County business.

Timothy O’Connell, 18, is charged with one count of felony stealing and one count of misdemeanor stealing.

In April, authorities went to Ozark Hills Angus on Missouri 179, where the owner said some batteries had been stolen out of a work truck, according to a Cole County Sheriff’s Department probable cause statement. The owner believed O’Connell, who was a former employee, was responsible.

The owner later went to Gold Star Recycling, where he had identified O’Connell on security video turning in the batteries for scrap money. They later discovered O’Connell had turned in stolen motorcycle motors and a backhoe bucket for scrap money.

After learning what vehicle O’Connell was known to drive, authorities found him and took him into custody following a traffic stop. He eventually confessed to taking the batteries, the motorcycle engine and the backhoe bucket.
