Jefferson City High School presents prom royalty

Jefferson City High School held its prom Saturday, with the theme of "A Night at Jay Gatsby's Mansion."

The Marcullus Court was presented Friday during a morning assembly at Fleming Fieldhouse, and Taylor M. Horn was announced as queen.

Horn is the daughter of Paula and Derrick Balmer and Kyle Horn. Her high school activities include three years of J-City Riot Show Choir, two years of Tonal Uproar A Capella and two years of Chorale. Her high school awards include Seal of Excellence, four years of honor roll, and Outstanding Choreographer from the International Competition for High School A Capella. She will attend the University of Central Missouri to major in secondary education. Her escorts to the assembly were Joseph Travis and Tyler Bise. She was escorted to the dance by Tucker Schwartz.

Other court members include:

Ify A. Anunoby, the daughter of Ogugua Anunoby, Sr. and Felicia Anunoby. Anunoby's high school activities include three years of speech and debate and three years of Gender and Sexuality Alliance. She served as co-president of GSA during her senior year. Her high school awards include the National Speech and Debate Association Outstanding Distinction award and honor roll. She will attend the University of Missouri-Columbia to major in biology with an emphasis in pre-med. Her escorts to the assembly were Amr Ahmed and Adam Allsbury, and her escort to the dance was Boris Murillo.

Haylee P. Backues, the daughter of Missy and Stacey Backues. Backues' high school activities include two years of J-City Riot Show Choir, two years of Tonal Uproar A Capella and three years of National Honor Society. Her high school awards include four years of honor roll, Seal of Excellence, and Outstanding Choreographer from the International Competition for High School A Capella. She will attend Northwest Missouri State University and plans to major in business management. Her escorts to the assembly were Chad Volmert and Garrett Parker, and her escort to the dance was Jaren Jones.

Erica L. Dunn, the daughter of Kevin and Martie Dunn. Dunn's high school activities include four years of varsity tennis, as a seven-time district champion, four-time state qualifier and one year as captain; three years of Student Council, serving as student body vice president this year; two years of culinary arts; and three years of National Honor Society. Her high school awards include Presidential Volunteer Service Award, Outstanding Student Leader and Missouri Association of Student Councils' Distinguished Student Leader. She will attend Missouri Western State University to play tennis and major in business management and finance. Her escorts the assembly were Nathan Erickson and Payton Bryan, and her escort to the dance was Logan Heimericks.

Brianna C. Holley, the daughter of Brian Holley and Andrea Sykes. Holley's high school activities include four years of varsity track and one year of Marcullus yearbook staff. Her high school awards include four years of honor roll and Rotary Student of the Month. She will attend Mississippi State to major in educational psychology. Her escorts to the assembly were Reggie Boomin and Mason York. She went to the dance with her friend Rayana Thompson.
