Culinary event benefits Nichol’s FFA

Nichols Career Center will host a fundraiser for its FFA group Thursday.

Nichols’ culinary arts program will prepare a pot roast dinner for the fundraiser, which will be held in the Jefferson City High School cafeteria from 5-8 p.m.

Last year, 230 people attended the fundraiser, but organizers hope as many as 350 will attend this year. A silent auction also will be held to raise money for the program.

Nichols Career Center Director Sharon Longan said money raised will be used to pay for things like camps and trip to a leadership conference in Washington, D.C., that Nichols’ 110 students in FFA want to attend.

“These types of things can be very expensive,” Longan said. “So it’s helping offset the cost of those things to make it more affordable to our kids.”

Tickets cost $10 when bought in advance or $12 at the door. Call 573-690-6722 or email Shannon Yokley at [email protected] to buy tickets.

The Nichols Career Center serves high school-aged children from schools around the area and trains them in trades like culinary arts, health sciences, media, and auto repair.

Longan said the center’s programs often work together to hold fundraisers. This will be one of the biggest fundraisers the culinary arts program caters.
