It's magic time again in Jefferson City.

The annual Gillam Family Illusions fundraiser for the Council for Drug Free Youth is Saturday at the Miller Performing Arts Center.

The event features Aaron and Denise Gillam; their children Marie, 18, and David, 16; a dog and a rabbit, CDFY Director Joy Sweeney said.

"It's incredible and very fun to watch," Sweeney said. "They are truly professional show people who travel all over the world."

Denise Gillam said the troupe (family) doesn't travel as much as it once did. The family has performed theater shows in the American West and even traveled as far as New Zealand to perform. The Gillams used to spend their summers traveling, but as the children got older, they were missing out on summer activities in Jefferson City.

Saturday will mark the 10th consecutive year the family has held the fundraiser for CDFY, Gillam said.

"It will be a 90-minute show that includes an intermission," she said.

Tickets cost $5 (children 2 and under enter free) and can be purchased at the door or in advance at Samuel's Tuxedos, 236 E. High St.; Southbank Gift Company, 110 E. High St.; and the CDFY office, 306 Jefferson St.

The performing arts center is located at 501 Madison St. Doors open at 1:30 p.m. Saturday.

The show is entertaining for family members of any age, Sweeney said. The Gillams will give a magic trick to every child who attends, she added.

"It's a great way for you to get out and do things with your families," Sweeney said. "You can show your kids you don't have to have drugs and alcohol to have a good time."
