Fulton youth charged with making threat

A 15-year-old Fulton boy was detained Thursday and transported to juvenile detention services after a report of a threat against a Jefferson City High School student.

The youth's name was not released by Jefferson City police. Capt. Doug Shoemaker, Special Services Division commander at JCPD, said the youth was detained at Fulton High School and no weapon was found there.

A Jefferson City Police school resource officer was notified at about 2:40 p.m. Thursday while on duty at the Jefferson City High School campus of a possible threat. The student, also age 15, told school officials 90 minutes after receiving the anonymous threat and determining it did not appear to be a prank.

Jefferson City High School officials immediately contacted law enforcement and an investigation began.

The threat included utilizing a firearm against the victim, police said. Within an hour, a suspect was developed and found to reside in Fulton. With the assistance of Fulton police and school officials, investigators determined the Fulton youth was assisted in carrying out the threat by another 15-year-old male. Both suspects were known to the victim, but there had been no prior threats, police said.

Both suspects were charges with making terroristic threats and disturbing the peace.

"Fulton police and Fulton schools were very, very cooperative with us," Shoemaker said.
