Local firefighters rescue dog

Jefferson City firefighters were involved in a dog rescue Friday morning.

According to fire department reports, a dog fell off a cliff overlooking the Union Pacific Railroad tracks and the Missouri River on the east side of town.

After arriving on scene, one member of the fire crew followed a trail that went down to the tracks to see if he could see anything from below. Another crew set up a lowering system, with a life safety rope, to lower one firefighter down the approximate 80-foot bluff to search spots the crew on the tracks couldn’t see.

The dog was found by the owner at the bottom of the cliff, hiding in thick brush. It appeared the dog suffered a few scrapes from the fall and was returned home safely.
